Shadow Ghost.What are they?
shadow ghost
This is a picture I took of what I believe to be a shadow ghost.

The term shadow ghost refers to a dark entity that appears as a indistinct shadow, sometimes they will be human in shape and size. They are usually seen as a fleeting shape out of the corner of your eye. Some have been seen during the day but more often at night. Many believe that they are evil or demonic because of their phantom like appearance although this really does not seem to be the case. Most cases of shadow ghost are reported in homes, in corners or disappearing through walls, sometimes passing by a lighted window. Other sighting have been reported frequently in woods, usually dissapearing behind trees or traveling through upper tree branches.

Description

  • Usually looks like the shadow of a person.
  • Oddly enough many report the appearance of a top hat.
  • Can appear like a thick black cloud of smoke.
  • Some may have red eyes.
  • Can be tall, around 8ft or so, although there are reports of them being very short around 3ft tall.

 Hints on seeing shadow ghost.

  • Pay attention if you feel like you are not alone or you get the feeling that someone is watching you.
  • Look closely at photos, that shadow may not be just a shadow.
  • Try setting up a webcam, play it back frame for frame you will be surprised at what you can see.
  • Take lots of pictures around your house.
  • I have seen a few by glancing behind me in a reflective surface like a glass door or in one of my sightings, my computer screen.

Note: Shadow ghost normally appear darker than other normal shadows. Notice the picture to the left, the outline of a man's head appears in the trees. The outline is darker than the surroundings.

About these images,

The chain link fence appears to go through the image of the mans head. If this is indeed a shadow ghost then he is either very short or coming out of the ground because the head is only about 2ft above the ground. I took this picture one night at some railroad tracks near my house. I really got an uncomfortable feeling here, but I did not see the image until later.

As you can see in this next picture there is also an orb, although it could be a dust orb.
As you can see the orb is gone. The next picture that I took after this one shows that the "shadow ghost" is gone. Also the first picture shows nothing.

Throughout the years paranormal investigators have been asked many questions and have been told numerous stories by people interested in or just plain curious about the paranormal. Shadow ghost, shadow people, phantoms, dark entities, or whatever you choose to call them, seemed to be the hot topic and subject for debate.

There are literally thousands upon thousands of documented “Appearances” of these shadow beings. Almost anyone you speak with will have a story to tell you about an experience they have had involving a sighting. The majority of the information provided is that of seeing a “Dark shadowy figure” just out of the normal field of vision. Everyone describes that once they see the movement in their peripheral vision they turn, and then nothing.

Peripheral vision has less receptor cells than that of the retina and therefore lacks the clarity, focus, and color compared to that of center gaze. The cells present in the peripheral are excellent at detecting movement. In low-light settings certain receptor cells that are used primarily in the retina are rendered ineffective in the peripheral. This causes other type of cells that are predominantly in the peripheral to become more acute. This may explain why more shadow beings are seen in low-light settings. The peripheral has been improved simply by turning off a light! Peripheral vision is also more sensitive in that of animals. This may also explain why animals seem to be agitated at times and are captivated by things that “Are not there”.

While science continues to provide explanations for some possibilities of “Sightings”, there always seems to be an exception. Researchers have occasionally explained these sightings as normal physiological symptoms for example: Hypnogogia, a condition where a person is between a waking and sleep state of consciousness. Pareidolia is when the brain incorrectly interprets random patterns or shadows and light for something recognizable. While these explanations seem reasonable, they don’t explain reports of people seeing these beings straight on and while fully awake. Many people state that they were actively participating in conversations, watching television, or reading a book when the sightings occurred.

Another explanation of these sightings is that of electromagnetic fields also know as EMF. Electromagnetic fields affect the temporal lobe and therefore can cause either auditory or visual hallucinations. Research to the contrary has also shown that the amount of EMF needed to induce these hallucinations is significant and has only been reproduced in controlled settings. North Carolina Paranormal Investigations (NCPI) has conducted immense samplings of EMF in regards to day-to-day activities. After numerous years of research, they have not found EMF levels to be high enough to trigger the physiological effects. The fact that the EMF levels needed to induce hallucinations are so high, one can theorize that those levels are not likely to be present in any normal setting. This theory also does not explain why the sightings are so frequent. Almost everyone has had an experience in regards to sightings.

So what are they? The simple answer is, no one knows. One theory is that shadow beings are inter-dimensional beings, somehow managing to bleed through into our plane of existence. It seems even some scientist contemplate that there are multiple dimensions that exist parallel to our own. Some argue that these different dimensions cross over each other at different times enabling us to catch glimpses or “Shadows” of life on the other side. Could these “Others” have found a way to travel between dimensions?

The belief that such beings exist is wide spread and dates back many years and encompasses numerous cultures as well. Particularly fascinating beliefs of such creatures are those of people from the Middle East and the Gaza Strip. The Djinn or Jinn, as they are known in Islamic mythology, bear a striking resemblance to shadow beings both in appearance and ability to be seen. The Djinn are described as being creatures whose community is much like that of our own in that they eat, sleep, marry and so forth. They are believed to be responsible for disease and mental impairments in humans. It is interesting that the word “Jinn” is used to describe something that is fleeting, invisible, or concealed. It should also be noted that these creatures have the ability to be seen by humans either on purpose or accidentally.

Another widely accepted theory among paranormal groups is that shadow beings are actually spirits in a darker form; darker in color, not necessarily in nature. One commonality found during North Carolina Paranormal Investigation’s research was reports that shadow beings appear to be of a male gender. There seems to be other common characteristics that stand out and that is their appearance. Most reports state that they are either very tall or very short, around 3 ½ ft tall or 6-7ft tall. They can appear as a black mist or a human shaped form, sometimes very defined or just a vague outline. They will have no identifying features or details, like clothing or facial features. Another often reported detail is the manner in which they appear and disappear. Described as stealthy and sneaky, they are not easy to see or capture on camera. In some instances they will disappear quickly into a wall or room, before you have a chance to get a good look.

In almost every report, the person feels as though the being was malicious or demonic. Could this be a natural human physiological reaction to their dark appearance versus an actual negative demeanor from the shadow being itself? When questioned, witnesses typically can not pinpoint exactly why they believe this and state that it is simply the feeling they get. They explain that when these sightings occur, they are almost always left feeling anxious and troubled.

With so many sightings from such a broad range of people, how could they all share the same condition? How can science explain a condition that affects the masses from around the globe? It seems that at this point there are still far too many unanswered questions to make any type of hypothesis. North Carolina Paranormal Investigations plans to continue their research while trying to classify each sighting by appearance, conditions, and location. To assist with their research, they have asked that anyone who has had an encounter to please e-mail them at: investigations@ncparanormal.com.

I have had various request to post something new on shadow ghost. The main question I am asked is "are shadow ghost negative"? I have heard from many people who assume that they are. I have been studying shadow ghost for quite sometime now and have had many personal encounters of my own. At first I was just curious about this subject, because no one seemed to have any answers, and if I can not find answers then that is all I need to get going. In any case as I did some research I found that the sightings, while varied, also remained consistant in certain details. I recalled that when I was in High School we had several sightings of what the kids in the neighborhood refered to as phantoms in the woods. They described them as male and possibly wearing a cape and top hat. As I continued my research and started interviewing people, I compiled a list of descriptions and mannerisms as well as several other factors that we investigators take into consideration. Now, some time went by and life became hectic, so I pushed my research into the background for a while. Then last November I had a shadow ghost experience. This followed with several more over a period of 7 months, all in different locations. So now I can add my own personal observations with the eyewitness accounts from my earlier research. I found that I could group these shadow ghost into categories which I will just generalize here. I will start with appearance, they seem to be either around 3 ft tall or between 6 and 7 ft tall, very dark, sometimes consisting of a well defined human shape other times appearing less defined without clear definition. In a few cases a black ecto like mist was seen.

Their mannerisms in a word that I have used, based on my observations is "stealthy. They do appear to be sneaky, I base this on the way you can catch them darting around just out of site, or in my case on two seperate occasions, appearing in a reflective surface behind me. I have had the good fortune to see several up close and each one appeared and acted differently one from the next, but in each case they fell into the same descriptive categories I described above.

The one thing I have learned for sure, at least until such time someone proves me wrong or I see differently, is that all shadow ghost appear to be male. Why this is, is still a mystery to me, but I have never run across a female shadow ghost nor have I heard tell of one. In each case I felt a very strong male presence.

Now I will add my opinion on whether or not shadow ghost are negative. I believe that there are negative spirits out there, although it has been my experience that it is not all that common. Consider the appearance and mannerisms described above, and remember that it is human nature to be wary of the dark and the unknown. Especially when it seems beyond our ability to grasp what we are seeing let alone understand it. I do not pretend to understand why shadow ghost appear as they do and why they seem so sneaky, but when you think about it, it makes sense that we automatically put them in a negative light. So all of that being said, no I do not think all shadow ghost are negative, it has been my experience that spirits are as varied as humans and they can not all be lumped into the same mold just because they act a certain way or appear a certain way. In any paranormal situation if you feel uncomforatable and feel that a spirit is negative then you can always just walk away.
